This Laboratory was established with both NHS and academic roles in endocrinology and provides a comprehensive analytical and advisory service, particularly in paediatric endocrinology, pituitary and thyroid disease and reproductive medicine. There are strong links with the College of Medical and Dental Sciences at the University of Birmingham with the regular review of cases, service developments and research. The laboratory is CPA accredited and there is a full programme of quality assurance. The laboratory offers a number of national specialist services such as the measurement of thyroglobulin and alpha subunit. Mass spectrometric methods have been introduced and that service developed. The Director and Deputy are supported by a team of HPC registered Clinical Scientists and Biomedical Scientists with particular responsibility for these specialist services. The Endocrine Duty Biochemist can be contacted through switchboard on bleep 1417.

Enquiries and comments on any aspect of the service are welcome.
