Paediatric Clinical Biochemistry Department
This laboratory forms part of the Metabolic Diseases Group at Guy's Hospital.
Analyses carried out are:

BLOOD ANALYSIS:

  • Amino acids - 1mL freshly frozen plasma
  • Total homocystine - 1mL freshly frozen (within 1 hour) plasma
  • Very long chain fatty acids and phytanic acid - 1mL freshly frozen plasma (EDTA only)

URINE ANALYSIS:

  • Organic acids - 5mL fresh random urine
  • Methylmalonic acid - 5mL fresh random urine (part of organic acid screen)
  • Amino acids - 5mL fresh random urine
  • Reducing substances - 2mL fresh random urine

CSF ANALYSIS:

  • Glycine - 0.4mL in plain tube (send with paired plasma sample)
  • Lactate - 0.4mL in fluoride oxalate

FAECAL ANALYSIS:

  • Reducing substances - freshly frozen
